How to choose a wedding veil

When choosing a wedding veil for the first time, many brides become overwhelmed with choice - so many styles, colors and varieties in the market. With our step by step guide, the process of selecting the right bridal veil becomes much easier!

Choose a style

Think about your wedding dress as a starting point and consider the style of it. Is it minimalist? Modern? Boho? Eclectic? Vintage? There are endless possibilities, especially if you mix some of the styles. Look at the fabric of the dress, it often tells a story of its own. Is it luxurious satin, delicate lace or airy chiffon? With that in mind, start looking at veil styles. Juliet Cap veil will be perfect for a retro look. A plain drop veil is a perfect minimalist match. A lace mantilla veil to match the gown.

Choose a matching color

95% of the wedding gowns are made in ivory color. Even if it looks like white. The difference is most visible in bright sunlight - white will look almost blue since it’s a bright color with cool undertones. Ivory has a warm yellowish undertone that complements most brides. If you want to match the veil to your dress in color, look at the color of your dress or send a picture to your veil designer - they will tell you for sure which color to aim for!

Choose a complementary color

If you are not looking for an exact match for your veil but instead want to incorporate little colorful details into your look, search for a colorful veil! Light blue veil as your ‘something blue’, lavender to match the bouquet or blush wedding veil as part of your neutral pink wedding color palette. There are even multicolored veils for eclectic brides who want to express their personality on their special day.

Choose lace

The lace of your veil does not need to match the lace of your gown 100%. Instead, you can aim for a similar style of lace or pattern motifs. If your dress has eyelash lace, then a veil with the same type of lace will look good with it. And chunky vintage lace is a great partner for the same style in your gown. Pro tip: if you have a lace-less wedding dress, you can still choose a lace-full veil! Instead of matching details, play with the color or style of the veil.

Choose embellishments

Choose a length
